15-year-old ran man over during attempted carjacking at N.J. gas station, cops say

Authorities have charged a 15-year-old boy who is accused running a man over during an attempted carjacking.
The violent incident happened at a gas station near Valley Road in Bernards Township around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office said. As the owner of the vehicle was putting air in his tires, the teen allegedly struck him and entered the car, authorities said.
As the alleged carjacker was reversing the vehicle, the man and another person who was trying to help him gain access to the car fell onto the ground. The car then accelerated forward, running over the vehicle owner, officials said.
The man was caught underneath the vehicle before it came to a stop, investigators said. Gas station workers jacked up the car so that the victim could be removed.
He was taken to a hospital, where he received life-saving treatment for extensive injuries, prosecutors said.
The boy was arrested on the day of the incident. He has been charged with carjacking, robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault by auto and weapons offenses.
He is now in custody at Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center.
